SunStove® solar cookers work best when and where the sun shines for more than 45 minutes every hour. They produce the most heat during mid-day. They work best when you can see your shadow, and it is no taller than you are (roughly between 10:00 and 15:00 in winter, and 9:00 and 16:00 in summer.)
The amount of time needed to cook depends on the volume of food and the amount of sunshine. Generally, food takes about twice as long to cook as “normal.”
Each SunStove® can cook enough food for a familly of 4-6. Generally, one or two pots containing 4-5L of rice and 1-2L of vegetables/meat/fish.
Stews, soups, casseroles, meat, rice, fish, bread and vegetables. It can also be used for baking. The SunStove® can also be used for browning food such as meat and chicken. Put a little oil in the pot, add the meat and leave for about an hour, turning occasionally.
Yes! There is no risk of fire or explosion, and a reduced risk of skin burns compared to cooking over a fire.
SunStoves do not release pollutants or consume natural resources. They are powered by the sun – a free and abundant source of energy.
SunStove Organization is a non-profit organization that is self-sustaining. Your contributions help reduce the cost of solar stoves and make them available to more families. Click here to donate.
USE ONLY BLACK POTS WITH BLACK LIDS. Pot lids get very hot, 150C. Do not allow the lid to touch the clear plastic cover; it will melt. Do not touch pot with bare hands; it will burn. Do not use pots with plastic handles; they can melt.
Do not leave your SunStove® facing the sun when not in use. Store it in the shade or turned away from the sun. Do not use ammonia based cleaners on the translucent lid and avoid scratching it.
